ETICS Fastening of Downpipes in Front of the Facade
LORO offers high-quality and solid pipe clamps with optimized dimensions for all nominal sizes. For support with the proper fastening of the pipe clamps to the building, we refer to the expertise of specialized fastening manufacturers.
When downpipes are installed in front of a facade with ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite System), the thickness of the insulation must be considered when designing the fastening, as the "distance" between the anchor in the wall and the pipe clamp increases with thicker insulation.
Load Tables
The load tables of fastening manufacturers usually refer to different installation situations that differ mainly by the factors of distance and wall construction. Approved distance mounting systems represent an alternative to downpipe supports when the number and spacing are observed. For this purpose, application examples were developed with Fischer company (see attached PDF).
Pipe and Water Weight
For the dimensioning of the fastening, a planned weight of the water-carrying pipe system must be assumed, whereby the assumed water weight has the greatest influence on the total weight. In practice, there are three approaches for vertical downpipes, which are based on different assumptions.
Empty
The pipe clamps should only support the weight of the empty pipe and secure the downpipe against buckling away from the facade. It is assumed that the water falls freely through the pipe and has no effect on the pipe clamps. (Only applicable for vertical downpipes!)
Partially Filled
The pipe clamps should be able to support the pipe weight and a portion of the water weight. A planned filling level of 0.33 would reduce the planned pipe weight compared to full filling as follows.
Planned weight = 0.33 * (Weight full - Pipe weight) + Pipe weight
Example partially filled DN100: Planned weight = 0.33 * (12.4 kg/m - 4.9 kg/m) + 4.9 kg/m = 7.375 kg/m
Fully Filled
Fastening manufacturers usually assume the "worst case" when designing fastenings, i.e., they base the selection of the fastening on the weight of a fully water-filled or frozen pipe. The weights of all nominal sizes can be found in our brochure for steel drainage pipes.
Example fully filled DN100: Not the pipe weight of LORO-X steel drainage pipes of 4.9 kg/m, but the fully water-filled weight of 12.4 kg/m is used as the basis for selecting the fastening (for comparison: zinc sheet pipe fully filled 9.23 kg/m).
Supports horizontally installed water-filled pipes and vertically installed ice-filled pipes.
