LORO-X Hot-Dip Galvanizing

High-quality corrosion protection

The high corrosion protection of hot-dip galvanized LORO-X steel drainage pipes has been achieved for over 60 years through high-quality hot-dip galvanizing with a thickness of over 55 microns. It provides the solid steel pipe with reliable corrosion protection for decades.

The steel pipe is immersed in a bath of molten zinc at approximately 450°C. This creates a resistant alloy layer of iron and zinc at the contact surface, and above it a very firmly adhering pure zinc layer that develops a patina matching the building over time (See LORO ABC Weathering).

While the corrosion resistance against flash rust and contact corrosion in stainless steel pipes depends primarily on the material grade (e.g., V4A), the surface of hot-dip galvanized LORO-X steel drainage pipes is less susceptible to nobler metals.

Cathodic Protection

A major advantage of hot-dip galvanizing is the so-called "cathodic protection," which ensures that the corrosion protection can restore itself after cutting or in case of minor damage and scratches in the zinc layer. The high-quality hot-dip galvanizing with a thickness of over 55 microns automatically "seals" the cut edge after cutting, so that corrosion protection is maintained without additional post-processing. Durable

"Hot-dip galvanizing has excellent chemical and thermal resistance. An important factor influencing the corrosion behavior of zinc coatings in liquids is the pH value. Zinc coatings show stable behavior in solutions with a pH value above 5.5 and below 12.5. Within this pH range, a protective layer forms on the zinc surface, so the corrosion rate is very low. The thermal resistance at both low and high temperatures is also excellent. Hot-dip galvanized steel structures such as those on the Zugspitze, various ski lifts, or in Antarctica have proven themselves for decades. But hot-dip galvanizing also provides effective protection at elevated temperatures. In the hot water range, hot-dip galvanizing can usually be used up to a temperature of 35°C. In atmospheric exposure, the temperature limit is usually stated as 200°C."

Sustainable and Circular

"Hot-dip galvanizing is not only long-lasting and robust but also particularly sustainable and resource-efficient. This is proven by studies, investigations, and an environmental product declaration. In direct comparison with other processes, a high amount of CO2 (carbon dioxide) is also saved. More information on sustainability at: www.feuerverzinken.com/nachhaltigkeit.
