Bitumen corrosion
In the field of titanium-zinc components for roofs and façades, the term "bitumen corrosion" is a recurring topic. Under low-moisture conditions, e.g. when dew settles in the early morning hours, oxidation of the bitumen (caused by UV radiation) can lead to an increased acid concentration that may have a detrimental effect on certain components. During rainfall, this is generally diluted and washed away.
Thanks to high-quality hot-dip galvanising with a zinc thickness of min. 55 µm, LORO-X parapet outlets are designed in such a way that there is no risk from standing media (in this case sulphuric acids, which are produced by the combination of UV radiation and the petroleum content of the bituminous sealing).
We can confirm that, for decades, there have been no complaints regarding bitumen corrosion on our parapet outlets made of hot-dip galvanised steel.
