LORO-X Roof ventilator with connecting edge
For venting double-shell roofs without cross-ventilation
The LORO roof ventilator, hot-dip galvanized steel, with connecting edge, is screwed onto the upper sheathing and integrated into the roof covering in the usual way. The ventilation pipe can be extended downwards by inserting a plastic pipe into the existing LORO-X socket.
What is a roof ventilator used for?
A roof ventilator (also called roof vent or flat roof vent) ventilates the double-shell ventilated roof, the so-called cold roof. In this type of construction, there is a continuous air layer, the ventilation layer, between the insulated load-bearing slab (lower shell) and the sheathing with the roof waterproofing (upper shell). Moisture from the rooms below migrates through the slab into this air layer and is carried away there with the outside air before it can condense in the thermal insulation.
As a rule, this is done by cross-ventilation through openings at opposite roof edges. If cross-ventilation is not structurally possible – for example with a surrounding parapet, adjoining neighbouring buildings, an angled floor plan or a large roof depth – the ventilation layer is vented at individual points via roof ventilators: the roof ventilator penetrates only the upper shell and connects the ventilation space with the outside air. Warm, moist air rises through natural buoyancy, and the wind over the roof supports the removal.
The roof ventilator is therefore not a roof penetration into the interior of the building: the ventilation pipe ends in the ventilation layer between the two roof shells. Only the connecting edge is integrated rainproof into the roof waterproofing – as with any penetration of the roof covering.
Typical application: roof refurbishment of existing buildings
Double-shell ventilated roofs are found mainly in existing buildings, whereas new buildings mostly have unventilated warm roofs. The LORO-X roof ventilator is therefore used in particular for flat roof refurbishment: if the roof waterproofing is renewed and the existing ventilation layer is retained, it continues to ensure reliable venting – durable, impact-resistant and made of non-combustible, hot-dip galvanized steel.
For pipe penetrations through the entire roof into the interior of the building – for example for vent pipes of the sanitary ventilation – we offer the flexible pipe penetration LOROFLEX.
