Lightning Protection

In general, metallic drains on the roof do not need to be included in the lightning protection system if they (1) do not extend more than 300 mm above roof level, (2) occupy less than 1 m² of area, and (3) are not longer than 2 m.

LORO drains generally do not have a height of more than 300 mm above roof level, a base area of more than 1 m², or a length of more than 2 m, so they do not need to be included in the lightning protection system.

The protection zone around air terminals (lightning protection) must be maintained.

Details are regulated, for example, in EN 63205-3 Chapter E.5.2.4.2.4.
