Renovation
Standard-compliant renovation with emergency drainage
When renovating, the current standards for roof drainage must almost always be complied with. Above all, this means that the calculation of the drainage must correspond to the current (usually higher) rainfall intensities. For this reason, roof drainage renovation is often carried out together with roof refurbishment and insulation „in one operation“.
The new systems then often have to be designed for higher performance. And an additional drainage system, the emergency drainage to the open, must be retrofitted – if not already present!
DIN 1986-100 5.8.4: „Whenever the roof surface of a building is renovated, the discharge capacity of the existing drainage installation must be verified. It must also be checked whether emergency drainage systems are present, adequately sized and correctly arranged.“
Essentially, there are 2 options when renovating:
1. Renovation with new parapet drainage
The „old“ drainage is decommissioned or dismantled and replaced by a powerful new system. If the fall on the roof is not already directed towards the parapet, new tapered insulation is often installed. Any additional costs caused by the tapered insulation are quickly offset, as parapet drainage without pipes inside the building can be installed and operated with considerably less effort.
The retrofitting of an emergency drainage system required by DIN can, for example, be carried out using LORO-X parapet drainage systems even without any intervention in the existing roof surface.
2. Renovation with renovation drain
If the existing pipe system is to continue to be used, LORO offers special renovation drains. The LORO-X renovation drain has an extra-long connecting pipe with a specially developed lip seal. Depending on the nominal size of the existing pipe, the renovation drain can be installed one nominal size smaller. In the case of partial roof renovation, the existing vapour barrier and roof drainage may remain in place after inspection. The LORO-X renovation drain can seal almost any roof gully make and their raising elements in a backflow-proof manner.
