Drainage plan

For systems used to discharge rainwater, an object-specific verification of the function must be provided. When planning a drainage system, the following points must be taken into account in accordance with DIN 1986-100. On this page you will find annotated quotations from the standard, supplemented with further links.

What does the drainage plan contain according to DIN 1986-100 sec. 5.4.1.1?

  • Sewer register: scaled extract showing in particular the height and position of the connecting sewer.
  • Site plan of the underground drains with nominal size and gradient, position of manholes or inspection openings with height data. This is where the downpipe or the rainwater stack pipe is connected.
  • Position of any rainwater harvesting system with heights of the inlet and outlet. LORO-X siphonic drainage systems are ideally suited for the targeted routing of rainwater to a rainwater harvesting system, as the position of the downpipe can be selected accordingly.
  • Building plans at a scale of ≥ 1:100 showing the drainage system.
  • Proof of usability of the construction products used. Approvals and certificates are used.
  • Proof of design of the drainage system. Measured LX data sheets and calculations are used as proof of performance.
  • For multi-storey buildings with downpipes ≥ 10 m: floor plans, sections and roof top views with height data of the drainage low points, representation of all collecting, down and underground drains with nominal sizes (DN) and gradients, including the ventilation pipes and, where applicable, aeration valves.

Further information

  • Type and purpose of the building project.
  • Cadastral map and proof of ownership.
  • Site plan with property boundaries, structural facilities, protected tree stands, paved courtyard and path areas, drainage channels and adjacent areas with elevation and indication of the low points.
  • Height data of the finished floors on the ground floor.
  • Sewage lifting units and/or other backflow prevention devices.

Drainage plan for areas over 800 m2

For an effective drainage area > 800 m2, the following information is required in addition to the design principles stated in 5.4.1.1 (DIN 1986-100 sec. 5.4.1.3):

  • (Partial) areas: representation of the effective drainage areas with height data of the drainage low points and, where applicable, of the rainwater retention.
  • Drainage calculation: design rainfall intensities and runoff coefficients.
  • Emergency drainage: position of the emergency drainage with discharge to the open air.
  • Choice of material: e.g. hot-dip galvanised steel of building material class A1, non-combustible.
  • Information on the permissible static loads of the roof. This determines the maximum permissible water level, in particular during operation of the emergency drainage.
  • Details of the roof structure as well as the waterproofing and materials.
  • Infiltration according to DWA-A 138 and taking DWA-M 153 into account.
  • Retention and throttled discharge (retention). Limitation of the volume flow for discharge into public sewer systems or a body of water.
  • Possibility of draining drainage water.
  • Structure of the planned green roof.
  • Information on rainwater management.
  • Information on land use and watersheds.
  • Treatment measures for contaminated rainwater.
